Today, I just signed back up with the United States Chess Federation. I also signed up to play a two-game email correspondence game with someone. I haven't done this in a long time but I have been wanting to.

I used to play chess quite a bit 20 years ago. I was in a situation where I had plenty of time, so I decided to learn how to play really well at the game. I've been a lifelong fan of chess. I consider myself a competent player these days but I am also so very out of practice.

A long time ago, I played in a four player “tournament” via correspondence and I was tied for the win.1 Am I great? Heck no, but I am pretty decent. I’d say that I am actually in the 600 range in score, but I really don't know. My “current” correspondence score is 1714, but that is only for roughly four games overall and shouldn't be used to say how good I am.

I want to get better and play more, so I am signing up to play more via email correspondence. I’ll chronicle that journey here, or try to when I remember to post something.

Do you play chess? Let me know in the comments below.

That tournament is also really weird. We had one guy never reply to any of us so he got immediately disqualified, granting the remaining three players two wins. I would go on to have two wins and two losses, which if you then add it up, it was a three-way tie for the win.
