Cicero greets Atticus.

From your letter and from the situation itself I see that I am utterly undone.1 Please, do not fail my family in whatever help they need in these miserable times.2 As you write, I shall see you soon.3

Towards the end of January a law to recall Cicero from exile was brought before the Senate. Clodius violently prevented it from being passed, and Cicero’s brother Quintus was injured. It’s not looking good for poor wretched exiled Cicero.

Atticus still hadn’t visited Cicero, despite all his promises to do so. But there is a gap in their correspondence between February and September, which may be because they were spending time together at Atticus’ estate in Epirus.
