Healthy eating is an absolute JOY to me, but it didn’t always feel that way. This plate reminded me just how much perspective shapes everything. For so long, I viewed healthy eating as a place of restriction rather than freedom. What should I avoid? What needs to be eliminated? How can I eat the fewest calories possible? You get the point. But as I’ve grown in freedom, that lens has shifted. Instead of fixating on what was missing, I started focusing on what I could add: more color, more vitamins, more minerals, more flavor, more texture…I’m learning that this same perspective shift can be made in every area of life. It’s not always easy, and it usually takes time, but the result is often so much more freedom and a whole lot more joy!!
My Herby Moroccan-Inspired Chicken Plate is a plate that perfectly captures that mindset. Instead of focusing on what’s missing, it’s filled with beautiful, fresh, real ingredients that create an insanely delicious meal! Juicy Moroccan-inspired chicken thighs paired with caramelized roasted sweet potatoes, a smashed cucumber, cherry, and snap pea salad, and creamy goat cheese! a crunchy cucumber-cherry salad, and creamy goat cheese! You’re going to loveee it!

Every recipe I share is built with intention, so whether you’re eating to manage a condition, hit a protein goal, or simply feel your best, I always break down how this recipe may support your goals and why to help you make choices that work for your body!
A note before we dive in: I’m a recipe creator and wellness advocate, not a registered dietitian or physician. The category designations below, like “hormone-friendly” or “PCOS-friendly” are based on general nutritional research and are meant to help you navigate recipes more easily. They are not medical advice. Always check with your healthcare provider before making dietary changes, especially if you’re managing a diagnosed condition. Full disclaimer here.
Anti-Inflammatory: EVOO, cherries, and garlic each bring documented anti-inflammatory compounds (oleocanthal, anthocyanins, and organosulfur compounds, respectively), and the recipe is built entirely without seed oils or refined sugars, two of the most common dietary inflammatory triggers. The diversity of plant foods (10+ in a single meal) adds a gut-microbiome dimension that research increasingly links to systemic inflammation reduction!
Gluten-Free: Every ingredient is naturally gluten-free, including verified GF Dijon mustard and Bragg’s Coconut Aminos. No gluten-containing grains, fillers, or additives!
Refined Sugar-Free: No white sugar, cane sugar, or industrially processed sweeteners. The small amount of honey (roughly half a teaspoon per serving) and the natural sugars in coconut aminos are natural!
Mediterranean Diet-Aligned: EVOO as the primary fat, poultry in a moderate portion, abundant vegetables and fresh herbs, goat cheese in a light serving, lemon, and garlic align closely with Mediterranean eating principles and nutritional patterns!
Gut-Supportive: This recipe includes approximately 10 distinct plant foods in one meal, which supports microbiome diversity. Garlic is a well-characterized prebiotic. The gut-supportive benefits in this recipe come from fiber and plant diversity!
High-Protein: Approximately 65g protein per serving, primarily from chicken thighs, with additional contribution from goat cheese and hemp hearts.
High-Fiber: Approximately 10g dietary fiber per serving from sweet potato, snap peas, cucumbers, cherries, and hemp hearts, more than double the FDA “high in fiber” threshold!
Hormone-Friendly: EVOO and hemp hearts provide the healthy fats needed for steroid hormone production. The high protein and fat content support blood sugar stability, which reduces cortisol-driven hormonal disruption. This provides a supportive dietary environment for hormonal health!
Perimenopause Support: At approximately 65g of protein per serving, this meal directly supports the elevated protein needs of perimenopausal women, where declining estrogen accelerates muscle protein breakdown. EVOO and hemp hearts provide healthy fats for continued hormone synthesis, and goat cheese contributes calcium for bone density.
Menopause Support: The same high-protein, anti-inflammatory profile that supports perimenopause applies here, with continued relevance for muscle preservation, bone health, and cardiovascular protection aligned with Mediterranean eating research.
Cycle Syncing:
Luteal Phase: Sweet potato provides complex carbohydrates associated with serotonin support and cravings management during the luteal phase. Chicken contributes B6, a cofactor in progesterone synthesis, and hemp hearts contribute magnesium, a nutrient commonly recommended for PMS symptom support.
Autoimmune-Supportive: Gluten-free, anti-inflammatory, gut-supportive, and free from refined sugars, seed oils, and processed additives!
Grain-Free: No grains of any kind. Sweet potato is a root vegetable, not a grain.
Soy-Free: No soy-containing ingredients. Bragg’s Coconut Aminos is made from coconut sap, not soy.
Nut-Free: No tree nuts or peanuts. Hemp hearts are seeds, not nuts, and are not classified as a common nut allergen by the FDA.
Egg-Free: No eggs or egg-derived ingredients.
Nightshade-Free: Sweet potatoes belong to a completely different plant family than nightshades. Cumin and coriander are not nightshade-derived. No tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, paprika, or chili.
Dairy-Free: Contains goat cheese; omit it entirely or use a dairy-free alternative cheese. The herb-forward cucumber-cherry salad and chicken can carry the dish without it!
Blood Sugar Friendly: Caramelized sweet potato carries a significantly higher glycemic index than other preparation methods. Steam or boil the sweet potatoes instead, and the macronutrient profile (65g protein, 55g fat, 10g fiber) does the rest of the work to make this blood sugar-friendly.
PCOS-Friendly: High protein supports blood sugar stability and insulin sensitivity, both central to dietary management of PCOS. Hemp hearts contribute zinc, a nutrient associated with androgen regulation. No refined sugars or seed oils. Note: caramelized sweet potato has a higher glycemic index than boiled or steamed; if you are managing significant insulin resistance, see the adaptation note above for Blood Sugar Friendly.
Hashimoto’s-Friendly: Gluten-free, which is the most important dietary factor for many people with Hashimoto’s, given the research on gliadin cross-reactivity. Chicken thighs provide selenium, a nutrient associated with thyroid peroxidase function and T4-to-T3 conversion. No soy. Note: goat cheese is included; if you are in a dairy-elimination phase of your Hashimoto’s protocol, the omit-goat-cheese swap above applies here as well.
Endometriosis-Friendly: The only element that conflicts with endometriosis-focused dietary approaches is the goat cheese. Omit it, and this recipe becomes a strong option: anti-inflammatory throughout, no red meat, and rich in antioxidants from cherries and herbs!
