My brain went on strike

Dear Curious Minds,

I owe you an explanation for the silence.

The last couple of months have been irregular. If you are new here, it’s not normal and definitely far from enjoyable for me to miss my weekly posts. That has sat heavily on me because writing is where I actually want to be.

I have been working on an ambitious next phase of Entangled Curiosities. It’s been a long process with trusted mentors, friends, and many of your support that got me planning wild and wonderful things in the next few months.

Then something arrived. An unwelcome turn of events that doesn’t announce itself politely, takes up every corner of your cognitive capacity, and has you recite your own mantra: yes, shit can always get worse.

I’m not ready to name it yet. But you’ll be the first people I tell when I can get my own brain to process the weight of it and articulate it properly. You’ve earned that. So has the story.

For now, I know I’m going to be okay.

It takes quite a lot to break me. Case in point: I had my job interview for my current role two hours after a cancer diagnosis. This is why I came to resent the word ‘resilient’. You see, I wasn’t afforded the luxury of fragility. I’ve written before about why I think fragility is a privilege. I mean it.

So no, I’m not broken. A bit battered, yes. The neurons are still coming back online. My usual long-form analysis will be with you in another few days, or maybe a week.

I promise something is coming. A new phase of Entangled Curiosities — something we’ve been building here together over the last year and a half. I had joyful plans before the universe, apparently, had notes. Well, I guess I was destined for such a story arc of (painful) complexity by naming this space Entangled Curiosities.

Better things and news are coming. You’ll hear it here first.

Thank you for still being here. It matters more than I usually say out loud.

Hongcha means black tea in Korean. Mocha is almost used to having a sister again.

Your koha means I can spend more time on deep dives and on planning engagement activities and advocacy campaigns. Could you support this mahi with a one-off virtual coffee for more creative feminist rage and grief?
