Hats off to Judith of Nightflight worthiness for daring me to talk about Russian stuff.
I have been discovering so much that is totally unknown in the west, only a fraction could be mentioned in this talk. At least, it will give you an idea.
I should make it very clear that I am not a historian, am not writing a book of Russian history (that’s a mission impossible). I am using tons of Russian sources on Russian history and all things Russian, to dig up a story of the people - a more legitimate pursuit for an anthropologist of grassroots cultures - and weaving my way into the mystery of ‘who are the Russians’. And the concomitant question of ‘why does the west hate them’ (but needs to get over it).
The (contentious) history piles up the riddles.
Snippets of voices from ordinary people give signals.
The (phenomenal) folklore gives hints of clues.
