It’s the second week of my Side Quest Summer endeavor, and I could not be more pleased with how this second project turned out. One of the primary goals of this endeavor was to let myself pursue ideas without concern for whether they needed to sell or scale. It’s a summer-long artist date, in a sense.
When I completed the second project, the light-sculpture seen below, I was in a state of euphoria. Truly. Most ideas in my brain turn out far, far differently once I make them. But this piece looked exactly as I envisioned it, and I experienced what I’m calling an Artist’s High. I’m assured by other artists that they experience this feeling too. If this is what a runner’s high feels like, I might be a runner too.
Although the intent behind “SQS” is not about making things to sell, I’m considering making these light-sculptures available for sale. If you might be interested in one of these light-sculptures you can comment below, reply to this email, or send a note here. I’d love to hear from you.
I can already tell there will a contemplative essay on the impact of exploring creative ideas outside of my “niche.” It’s safe to say, I highly recommend this practice. I look forward to sharing more about what I’m learning, as well as cheering you on in your own idea exploration.
I’m about to take a couple weeks off from substack for a bit of summer travel and rest. So I thought I would share a little “state of the studio” before I go.
The main two focuses of my creating time are put towards 1) Side Quest Summer and 2) wrapping up the work for my Spring Patron Program. I look forward to sharing the work with the Patrons next month.

I don’t even know if this is worth mentioning, but this tape dispenser is the best $15 I have ever spent. The bottom is weighted, so it doesn’t move when you pull a piece of tape. It’s the little things, ya know?
