Ella Howes · Feeling Griefy

This rating is for the random, short and light-touch stuff. You can read this scrolling on your phone waiting for the bus. Or while the kettle boils for a mid-afternoon tea. It’s the most digestible of nibbles. A salted griefy peanut.

A few months ago, I wrote about the happy/sad mix I felt at Christmas. This got me thinking about other griefy mixes, which then got me thinking about cocktails…specifically, Feeling Griefy cocktails…

  • Mourn-star martini - ‘I’ve just had a huge cry but you would never know it!’ with a dash of post cry sleepiness and a hint of warm mellowness.

  • Pina Bereaveda - Grief masquerading as a hard-to-identify-feeling, infused with some smoky overthinking (an incredibly strong mix). This cocktail is often served with a fizzy gaslighting spritz.

  • Grief on the beach - A classic mix of happy and sad feelings. This simple combination has delicate flavours, and is frequently served at big family events like Christmas.

  • Pisco sour-orrow - A zesty dose of tetchy feelings, shaken with ‘I-don’t-miss-my-mum-I-don’t-miss-my-mum-I-don’t-miss-my-mum-I-don’t-miss-my-mum’ denial. This bitter mix can lead to irrational frustration and/or extreme reactions to the smallest of things.

I could only come up with four cocktail names, so I thought I’d ask ChatGPT if it could come up with anymore …

The only word that comes to mind is lol.

Bye-Bye tai is the most morbid, followed by cosmo-pallbearer, and then grin and tonic!?

Anyway, have a lovely weekend 🌞
