Hello!
Happy August! I hope you’re not baking too much, and you and your garden are not suffering too much from this crazy heatwave! If you’re not currently in the middle of a heatwave - do let me know in the comments, and send some rain and cooling vibes our way please!
So, this is usually when I would write the August calendar email, but we’re going on holiday from the 14th - 30th August1, so business is definitely not as normal this month. I was going to try and fit in some Art Clubs this month, but somehow it’s already 10th August, and I’ve not even written my calendar post, so I’m admitting defeat and making August officially a holiday month!
But here are a few things while I’m away.
In case you haven’t already seen, I’ve launched a daily drawing challenge I’m calling gatherfiltermake100. The challenge is to draw every day for 100 days. You can join in anytime for free - all you have to do to join is start! The task is simple: make a drawing/sketch/paint splodge every day; it can be as small as you want, as quick as you want, as messy as you want. The idea is to build a habit, build confidence, and you might find, by the end of the 100 days that you want to keep going. I’ve done it a few times before. Read about it here.
I’m posting a weekly (ish) round up of my daily drawing,s which you can see here.
Here’s my post launching the project - why not join in right now!? I may be on day 37, but it’s never too late to start. The best time to start the project was 37 days ago, the second best time is right now!
I’ll be doing some deep-dive bonus content posts for paid subscribers - keep your eyes out for those - the first will be a sketchbook look though, as I’ve already filled a whole sketchbook!
I’m offering 50% off paid subscriptions while I do this challenge. I want this project to be for everyone - there’s no cost to drawing in your sketchbook; that’s what’s so great about it! But I want to give value to my paid subscribers, so I’ll be doing some paid posts to deep dive into the things.
Also, to note, if you’re reading this on an Apple device, they add a hefty percentage if you upgrade directly from the app, so if you open Substack on your phone or desktop (not the app), you can join without the additional cost. Let me know if you have any probs with this.
And if you want to upgrade, but don’t have the funds, let me know, and I can sort you out with a free sub.
I’ll be running Studio Club daily until August 14th, when I’ll be away until 31st August. Every weekday, 9.30–10.30am (UK time) link below for paid subscribers.
I’ll be posting the Replays of Art Club and Studio Club from last month before I go, but in the meantime, here are some posts you might enjoy while I’m away.

I’ve been wanting to write a regular post for a long time, but I wasn’t sure what form I wanted it to take. I wanted it to be. Maybe an update, maybe things I’ve been into recently, maybe things I’ve bought at charity shops… (I love shopping in charity shops/markets etc… and regularly bring back books and objects I want to talk about.) I also wanted to …
Have a lovely August! See some of you at Studio Club for the rest of the week, and I’ll be over on Notes while I’m away - do comment and say hi over there!
Until next time,
Ella xx
