June has been a flurry of fireflies, snapping turtles, escaping goats and marvelous visitors, including Houston-based artist Li(sa E.) Harris, master of improvisation, earth-mindedness and the theramin. For those of you not so familiar with electronica, the theramin is an electric instrument developed in the 1920’s which is played without physical contact. You wave your hands in the electromagnetic field between two antennae to control pitch and volume. Utterly magical. As was Li. Last Thursday, she volunteered her time to lead a workshop for our people. They loved her. And she loved them. She said they were better students than her students at Harvard—a fascinating subject that I will explore in more detail in another post… after I finish my novel. More on both of those things—Harvard v. Lonely Worm Farm and my novel—later. For now, I give you pictures.
