Hi, friends! What a whirlwind. I’m sorry for the delay getting this newsletter out. I have one starting school tomorrow (high five to all the moms who have made it—or are almost there...I see you! 🙌🏻), and the other came along with me last night for a very special evening celebrating the latest issue of Georgia Design Magazine. I took my oldest to her “first big magazine party” (her words 🙌🏻), and I loved getting to show her firsthand that we really can do whatever we put our minds to - They featured my love of thrifting and this newsletter here that could.

As for this week’s shopping intel: the in-person sales are a little lacking, but the online sales are starting to get bonkers. Labor Day promotions are rolling out quickly, and there are already some very good ones.

Be sure to keep checking my Labor Day Sales folder, Latest Finds, and Most Popular throughout the week. I’ll be updating all three as new sales launch and better markdowns appear, so they’ll be an easy place to see what’s new without having to dig.

Without further ado, let’s get into it!

If you follow me on insta, I’ve been chatting about how I think this sample sale is around the corner. I am checking the site a little too much to admit and can see all the backend links have been made for various sale pages (i.e. sample sale under $100), etc. I’ll continue to keep you posted, but sure hope this happens! Ahlers & Ogletree has a very good two-day auction coming up in Atlanta on September 2nd and 3rd, and I’ve already started going through the catalogs. There is a lot here—from contemporary art and iconic design to tabletop, antiques, glass and some very good old-school decorating pieces.

SEPTEMBER 2: MODERN & CONTEMPORARY ART + DESIGN

The first day leans decidedly more modern: fine art, furniture, lighting, sculpture, studio glass and decorative arts.

There are also more than 50 pieces of turned wood by Ed, Philip and Matt Moulthrop, which feels especially worth noting for anyone who loves collecting work with a Georgia connection.

Auction: Wednesday, September 2
Starts: 10 a.m. ET
Where: Ahlers & Ogletree, Atlanta / online bidding available

SEPTEMBER 3: IMPORTANT ESTATES + THE ESTATE OF BARBARA & SANFORD ORKIN

Day two is the one that immediately caught my attention.

At the heart of this sale is the Estate of Barbara and Sanford Orkin, longtime Atlanta collectors and philanthropists. Sanford was part of the family behind Orkin Pest Control and eventually served as its president before the company was sold to Rollins in 1964. He and Barbara were also major supporters of education, healthcare and the arts—particularly at their alma mater, the University of Georgia. And their collection is fun.

Auction: Thursday, September 3
Starts: 10 a.m. ET
Preview: August 31–September 1, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
Preview reception: September 1, 5–8 p.m.
Where: Ahlers & Ogletree, 1788 Ellsworth Industrial Blvd. NW, Atlanta

One important auction-house reminder: factor the buyer’s premium into your max bid. The online listing shows a 28% buyer’s premium, so decide what you’re actually willing to spend with that additional cost before the bidding gets exciting.
