Hello from the middle of summer. Can you believe we're already here? The past few weeks have felt impossibly full with work, and somehow whole weeks have disappeared. The funny thing about summer is that it always feels endless until, suddenly, it doesn't. But instead of mourning what's passed, I'm choosing to treat this as a reset: there is still so much summer left. I don't want to wake up on that first chilly morning that requires a cardigan wishing I'd gone on one more walk, had one more ice cream cone, or said yes to one more evening on a patio. So here's my midsummer reset - twenty tiny resolutions for the rest of l'été 2026:
play catch in the park: somewhere along the way, we stop throwing a ball around. the former Baseball Ballerina in me would like to remedy that.
eat stone fruits: get obsessed with a particular variety of peach.
institute aperitivo hour in preparation for Italy.
wear the tank top: I’ve spent too many summers hating my arms.
enjoy movie night al fresco: the Rosedale BIA is hosting them every Tuesday. I know Christie Pits does something similar. I can’t wait to pack a bottle of chilled orange wine, my favourite Bret’s crisps, and fall in love with Patrick Swayze all over again.
romanticize the weeknight evening walk: it’s such a blessing to wear breezy pants and walk with Truffles at twilight, especially after a long work day.
frequent the farmers’ market.
eat tomatoes while they’re still perfect.
spend an evening on a friend’s porch: the other week, we enjoyed a long Friday night grilling burgers, chicken, and veggies, then barbecuing peaches and pineapple for dessert, making pickletinis, popping lambrusco, and walking for ice cream. It felt like it lasted forever in the best of ways.
picnic.
visit a town I’ve never stopped in before: recently, that meant a cross-border dip to Buffalo, but I’ve got some local, Ontario road trips in mind before summer ends.
apply spf in the places I normally forget: the backs of my hands, my ears, and my lips.
carry maldon salt in my bag: for aforementioned tomatoes worthy of it.
become temporarily impossible to reach on the weekends.
let my hair air dry more often: a tiny bit of this product at the ends helps combat frizz.
wear all white all the time.
walk home instead of uber: one of my favourite summer traditions is walking home after date night, no matter how far the restaurant, sometimes stopping for a nightcap along the way.
romanticize golden hour like a Luca Guadagnino film, taking endless photos.
stop for every little free library, trading summer reads as I go.
find a summer perfume: with unexpected notes of patchouli and orange blossom, this one is mine.
Here’s to making the second half last a little longer. I’d love to know what’s on your list this season. I’ll be over here trying to stretch these weeks as far as they’ll go. If you need me, I’ll have a glass of rosé waiting.
