Elizabeth Gilbert · Letters From Love with Elizabeth Gilbert

In mid-March of this year, I was diagnosed with a rare, genetic, incurable disease of the foot called Ledderhose disease — which is a funny name for a not-at-all funny condition.

Ledderhose disease (named after the doctor who identified it, not after the awesome traditional alpine fashionwear that we all know and love) causes non-cancerous tumors to grow on the soles of your feet, between your tendons and your fascia.

The tumors start out small, but quickly get bigger, and as the Internet will happily tell you, they do not go away. The tumors will continue to grow and multiply over time until it looks like the bottom of your feet are covered with marbles, or popped popcorn. Do not Google this.
