Most of you receive these posts via email. If that’s the case, would you consider hitting the heart to “like” this at the top or bottom of the email? It tells the internet to show it to more people, and the internet, notoriously, needs a lot of reminders! Thanks!

where we are slowed down by shopping for shoes for ever-growing feet, hunting down the last of the school supplies, creatively storing the toddler’s latest obsession with fallen leaves.

It’s been a busy August as I try to squeeze every other fun summer thing in between the end of the baseball season and the start of the school year. Between camping alongside good friends and every mosquito in the state, a road trip to a water park to see my family, and hosting my nephews, my house is languishing under my lack of attention. There are piles of laundry in various states of clean and dirty all over my house.

But! I’ve been busy with other (read: better!) things too!

I got to join Marissa Franks Burt and her husband Fr. Aaron Burt on their podcast At Home with the Lectionary this weekend, as we discussed the coming week’s lectionary passages (Year A, Proper 16). Listen to our episode here!

And…there are so many good books coming out in the next few weeks. I’ve been like a kid in a candy shop with some advanced reader copies I was sent. I just finished Fashioned by Faith: Spiritual Disciplines for Deepening Your Relationship With God by Monica Ritchie. This book will be an asset in the hands of any believer who wants to know God more deeply in this Year of our Lord 2026, with our frenetic-paced chase after convenience and Instagram hot takes.

Get your copy today!

You can join Monica and I on a Substack live as her book launches, next Tuesday, August 25, at 10 a.m. CT (psst. we’ll be giving away a copy!)

Okay, a few more recommendations!
(Pro tip: f this email gets cut off, just hit the “view entire message” option at the bottom of the email!)

  1. Can’t stop thinking about the question posed by this essay on the mental load by Dorothy Littell Greco.

  2. Speaking of the mental load, thoughts and prayers to all of you sending kids off to college. This video from the aisles of Walmart sent me.

  3. Fan-favorite Caroline Williams wrote another banger of an essay, exploring where all the mothers have gone in our stories and fairy tales and what that tells us about the missing maternal face of God.

  4. Has your house too been taken over by Hey there, Mr. Jambo? If not, please treat yourself. (ps. this song is funnier if you know it was recorded in Southern Africa but uses a Swahili greeting, jambo, from East Africa, AND I will never recover from the phrase “the jambalaya living in your soul.”)

  5. Our house is also currently being held hostage by cherry tomatoes. Here’s my favorite way to use up all those garden tomatoes.

  6. Kenneth Tanner wrote this Instagram caption about the fear of God and what we are doing to ourselves, and IT IS A WORD.

  7. Postpartum blood plus ancient cave art? COUNT ME IN.

  8. One eensy request: If you’ve read Love like a Mother, would you consider leaving an honest rating & review on Goodreads or Amazon? It really helps others find the book and makes me a little weepy every time.

I’d love to know what you’re eating (is it chicken, pickles, cheese, and berries?), reading, watching, listening to, laughing or crying at. Hit up the comments, and pass the snacks.
