If you’re reading this as a post or as an email and enjoying it, please consider tapping the heart at the top or bottom. It helps other people find my work!
where we are slowed down by the chaos of Maycember’s endless activities, swapping out the winter clothes for summer, and searching for lost library books (just me?).
This has been such a whirlwind of a month! Love like a Mother came out last week and then spent several days as the #1 best seller in Christian Family and Relationships and almost a week in the top spot at Christian Women’s Living over on Amazon! I couldn’t believe it!
( pssst - as of this writing, Amazon is offering some stellar discounts on all formats - paperback, and especially the ebook and audiobook!)
Seeing all the pictures and videos of you holding the book in your hands felt very much like passing your newborn around the family reunion only this time with less paranoia about who has and has not washed their hands.
Speaking of washed hands, I’ve been stocking up the snacks for you all week, so let’s get into them:
(ps - this email may be too long for some of your inboxes. Simply tap “view entire message” to see the whole thing!)
Starting off strong, erin nolen wrote one of the best essays I’ve read in a while. It was one of those reads that made me hold my breath without realizing it, in the best of ways. It’s called “Mostly what God does is love you,” and I really hope you read it.
Jess Ray does not know who I am. But she wrote what I believe might be the anthem for Love like a Mother with her song Mama. It’s so beautiful and has been on repeat for me all week.
For my anxiety girlies, this bit about needing an AR instead of an ER during a panic attack was chef’s kiss.
I solemnly swear that today, the day of this writing, May 15, is the first day I did not pack mittens in my bag to watch one of my son’s baseball games. The evenings here have been crazy chilly (like sitting in the bleachers with a blanket, winter hat, mittens, and several additional layers), so if you too have been shivering on the sidelines, this video was made for you.
This is my shameless ask for your best dinner-on-the-sidelines recipes. Last year, I invested in a food carrier that keeps food hot or cold, so I have options for transporting the food to innumerable baseball games, but I am in search of recipes that are easy to make earlier in the day, reheat, and pack. If you’ve got one, please share in the comments so we eat more than concession stand hot dogs this summer.
I’ve been talking almost non-stop about the book, sounding more nasal than ever with a head cold that I truly believe could take down a rhino.
I got to talk with Sarah K. Butterfield on Theology on Purpose!
And then had a great conversation on the Faith & Feminism podcast.
I loved connecting with Leah and Te’Sheba over on The Urban Christian Woman Podcast.
And I always love talking with Marissa Franks Burt about the overlap in our work!
I’ve also written some things:
Why knowing God as mother matters to the Church
Remembering all the moms
An interesting take on God the good shepherd
I’d love to know what treasures have washed up on your Internet shores this week; feel free to share them in the comments!
