A few months ago I had a dream that could have been lifted right out of the book of revelations. A chaotic mess of a mind conjure with people fleeing in multiple directions. I cannot identify faces, but the energy was felt.
Exile.
I have had a series of dreams like this recently, a very significant one two weeks ago, and many more which border on prophetic (pisces moon gang), but there’s this one common protagonist: water
I do not have a traumatic relationship with water, but I have written about being afraid of the deep end.
For the record, I can swim. I can swim on my back, I can do a basic, conventional breast stroke and front crawl.
I retrace the maps of pools I’m familiar with for muscle memory. On a bad day I only go as far as my collarbone and then scurry back.
I take a swim safety class.
On a good day I enter in from the deep end.
I have been dreaming of water a lot lately.
I share a recent dream with a friend. The message: a water mantra repeated throughout the dream.
The phrase doesn’t hold significance for her (outside of what she already believes), but she shares an excerpt from a book she’s reading. It references flooding and the Mississippi river, only it’s not merely about flooding.
“All water has a perfect memory and is forever trying to get back to where it was" – Toni Morrison, The Site of Memory
It’s an allegory.
Collective consciousness is static. When you notice it you can’t un-notice. There’s a thread. My dream was for someone, even if it wasn’t for me. I share the dream with someone else, and it resonates. She sparks. It was meant for her.
I’m paying attention.

‘every shore is an altar of remembrance’ – Aja Monet ‘Cast Away’
In ‘The Hidden Messages in Water’, Japanese scientist Dr Masaru Emoto discovered:
Water spoken to positively produced well-formed crystals when frozen.
Water spoken to negatively produced deformities.
This lead him to believe that water is not only essential for survival, but conscious.
In any language the water was spoken to, Dr. Emoto found that objectively negative phrases produced distortions. It also mattered how the water was observed and that there were clear distinctions between tap water and spring water.
Does water hold memory?
He also believed that water crystals are capable of detecting upcoming natural disasters and envisioned comparing crystals photographs taken before and after earthquakes for future predictions.
What more could the water teach us?
What does the future look like when data centres granting us the ‘luxury’ of bypassing critical thinking continue to make the water we need to survive undrinkable? Why do we continue to go missing only to be found by bodies of water? Why doesn’t anyone know why? What is being felt collectively that we are struggling to name?
“The World Trade Organization has stated that the twentieth century started wars for oil, but that in the twenty-first century we will see wars for water” – Dr. Masaru Emoto.
I am paying attention.
