Listen. I was going to make a Very Nice Collage of June Things to put as the header of this email and it was going to have pictures of the Lady Agatha Tea Party library event I participated in, my garden and hollyhocks, a bookish craft I did, and Realm Makers highlights, but Canva is not syncing the way I want it to and I have already spent too much time on it so instead of a graphic you will get to use your imaginations. Ok? Ok.
It was a lovely month, the highlight of which was the Realm Makers Conference and Expo—my first time as an exhibitor! I was so lucky to share a table with the fabulous Adelyn Belsterling, and I loved chatting with readers until I was hoarse. It never seems long enough—there were so many people I wanted to spend more time with! Alas, this is what happens when you make friends! What a conundrum.
Speaking of friends, two of mine dressed up as Lady Agatha & Melusine for the costume banquet and I was so thrilled. Literally living the dream. And I will take time to Wrestle Technology so you can see that picture.
I have finally started on something that is both (a) fun and (b) probably publishable. Not sure when it will be publishable, but there is a lot of potential and I’m excited. And that’s all I can say on that for now.
I did share this … thing? on instagram recently, if you want a slightly-spooky-but-in-a-zany-way bit of flash fiction.
The Hostage and the Elf Pirate by Eliza Prokopovits releases July 15! If this is anything like her other books, it’s sure to be a rollicking good time. Plus, who doesn’t love being kidnapped by pirates?
A Dash of Ducks and Danger by Robyn Sarty is a sweet retelling of The Ugly Duckling, complete with a baking prince, a confectionary competition, and an “only one oven” trope, which is just fantastic.
And I had the pleasure of meeting Hannah Shoop recently, so of course I had to buy Straight on Till Morning, her faith-filled contemporary romance with plenty of Peter Pan references! It was wholesome and uplifting and I enjoyed it so much.
What have you been reading recently?
Actually, don’t tell me, I just bought like 18 books at Realm Makers and I can’t add anything else to my TBR until I read at least two of them.1 😅
I’m keeping this short this month because my brain is fried and my children need supper, which I fear will never cease to be the bane of my existence2, but I’ll be back in August and we shall see what is what then.
may your July be as wonderful as you imagined my June being, which it was,
Elisabeth
oh wait, I have read four of them because three are ones I’d already read and one was Straight on Till Morning, which I read last week, so go ahead and load me up with more suggestions, it’s fine, I can handle it
The constant “what should we eat??” dilemma, not the children—they are the opposite of a bane, whatever that is. Blessing? Delight? Etc etc etc
