E. J.'s MONSTROSITY · E. J.'s MONSTROSITY

I’m sharing quarterlyish peeks at my works in progress and readerly rambles about what I’m reading and loving.

Hello! I’m still here! Sorry I fell off for a while there, it’s been busy. In personal news, I went to my first WorldCon and had an amazing time, and I’ve been locking in to get a complete first draft of my space fantasy western completed. September always makes me want to embrace that “back-to-school” vibe and take on a project of some sort.

Anyway, here’s the roundup.

We’ve got movie trailers! Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein released its first teaser, and I’m so excited for it. “Wuthering Heights” (the quotes in the title alone are leaving people wondering what to think) also dropped its first trailer, and fans have feelings—including me. PSA, Wuthering Heights is not a romance. That said, after Saltburn, I’ll let Emerald Fennell lead me anywhere, so we’ll see.

Moshpit! At the (DC) library. My husband sent me this one, proving he knows me so so well.

Did you see the news that only 16% of people are reading? An intelligent dissection of the study from Lacey Dunham (her debut thriller releases next week!).

For the creators out there—if top podcasts can’t sell books, what do we do with that? Smart reflections on platform and promotion from author Amie McNee.

And because I can, bird names that sound like old-timey insults. If I call you a satanic nightjar please know I mean it with great offense, from the bottom of my heart.

Know your rights when protesting—ACLU workshop today!

Got ideas and recs? Send them over.

See everything I’m reading in 2025.

PS - When you click on the cover and buy the book I’m reading, not only do we get to read along together and trade notes (@ me!), but you’re also supporting indie bookshops and my writing thanks to the Bookshop.org affiliate program!

Thanks for reading! Check out my books here.
