The Red Flags We Ignore

As a mother of four, two boys and two girls, it has always fascinated me how they are all so different… and yet the same!

Similarly for my two sisters and me. All raised in the same house, with the same parents, and yet all so different… to the point where we even had different coloured eyes - 1 green, 1 blue, and 1 brown… and yet the same!

It is this fascination with what makes us who we are that has led me down many rabbit holes for over a decade.

And only a couple of weeks ago I was privy to a conversation about wolves that made my whole body smile from the inside. I will share a snippet of what I learned below, but the essence of the conversation is simply this.

Nature is soooooooooooooooooooo frikkin clever.

Did you know that there are 9 different archetypes within a wolf pack? Each with a specific skill that contributes to the well-being of the whole.

And not only that, each archetype is born with different facial features and markings that clearly signal to the others what their role is.

But wait there’s more…. the next thing that blew my mind was learning that the wolf mother will only give birth to the archetypes that are needed. This ensures there is not a lack or excess of any archetype within the pack.

The intelligence that is within every system within the natural world, blows my mind.

Having recently taken on the responsibility of raising a Wolfhound, coming across the extraordinary couple who run The Wolf and Dog Training Development Centre, has been such a blessing.

My experience was akin to wandering around a world where everyone seems to speak a different language and then, by chance, you come across people who speak your language and the connection floods your body with a feeling that is like coming home. Have you felt this?

Anyhoo, listening to them awakened that feeling in me.

I have long been drawn to the study of archetypes. It began with Greek Mythology in my late teens, carried on through literature, was reawakened with a next level of intrigue when my kids were in Steiner School, and then a couple of years ago, I chanced upon a copy of Women Who Run with The Wolves and that was the moment my heart, mind, body, and soul said………YES!!!!

It was once again, like finding home. A world within this world where truth thrummed like an infusion of vitality straight into my veins.

Ancient fairy tales, and other systems that focus on bypassing our mind and winding their way into the intelligence that thrums within our souls, all teach the same things.

Similarly to the wolves, nine foundation archetypes are the core teachings of several ancient systems that focus on what makes humans all so different… and yet the same!

Numerology, Tarot Major Arcana — 1 through 9 trace identity formation, and Enneagram, all nine distinct but interconnected personality archetypes.

There are others, equally powerful, but with a few more or less archetypes that form much the same story line that is the evolving story of a human’s life on earth.

The systems that have provided the most powerful mirrors in my work, reflecting the truth of who we are and what we were born to do, have been Gene Keys, Human Design, Traditional Fairy Tales, Tarot, and Numerology.

To learn the language of one, is to have a foundation understanding of them all.

And if I were to suggest one to start with, it would be Numerology.

Receiving my numerology blueprint for the first time was like being handed both a mirror and a map. Things that I have always felt or experienced, but presumed to be random, coincidental, or even purely inventions of my imagination suddenly became something entirely different. My strengths and challenges laid out like a map that I have been stumbling around on, now I walk with deliberate steps and a delicious feeling of anticipation.

The red flags that my intuition raised in warning that my mind/ego over-rode. And the intuition that has been my wisest guide all along, forever illuminating the next best step, but without trust in those nudges, I fell into every conceivable pothole along the way.

Each pothole was a devastating experience of abandonment and rejection, always at the hands of another... until I realised that by ignoring the red flags my intuition had been raising all along, I was responsible, just like Little Red Riding Hood, for ignoring what was so glaringly obvious in the first place.

Wisdom, to me, is the state of grace that descends when we tune out the clamour of the world and listen instead to the voice within that is wiser than the one in our head and transcribe without fear.

This work is for the woman waking up with hope, but little belief, that today will somehow be different. For the woman who has ticked all the boxes she was told would lead to the life she dreamed of, but the feeling of incompleteness remains. The knowing that there is so much more that you were born to be, do, and have, and yet you are standing in a life that doesn’t fit the way you dreamed it would.

In a society that has conditioned us to build our identity from the outside in, defined by our looks, weight, bank account, car, house, clothes, job etc... it is little wonder that, as Henry Thoreau said, “The mass of (wo)men lead lives of quiet desperation” … looking for that feeling of coming home.

Being disconnected from the truth of who we are and why we are here can only ever ensure we spend our lives seeking outside ourselves for answers that were within us all along... we have simply been looking in the wrong place.

All the information, beliefs and ‘shoulds’ create an almighty tangle in our minds.

But there is a way to clear the clutter.
