Ottawa achieves intermediate Bird-Friendly City status

Bird Friendly Ottawa (BFO) today announced that the City of Ottawa has achieved Bird-Friendly City status at the intermediate level. “We’re delighted to have attained this achievement,” said Deborah Doherty, Co-chair of Bird Friendly Ottawa. “This shows the City of Ottawa’s commitment to protecting birds and their habitat and recognizes the work already accomplished to bring us here.”

Ecology Ottawa challenges City's problematic report on right turn on red

Ecology Ottawa addressed a meeting of Council's Public Works and Infrastructure Committee on Thursday to oppose a report recommending against protecting pedestrians and cyclists downtown with a ban on Right Turns On Red. This report was full of problems: the complete omission of research literature, wholly inadequate statistics, and an acquiescence to dangerous driver behaviour.
