Dear Colleagues,

I’ve got a lot to share in today’s newsletter! We have opened the ECCP Community Fund for the third time, we’re introducing new ways to engage with other members, and so much more.

If you’re new to the ECCP, welcome. Watch the recording of our 2026 New Member orientation here. You can follow the ECCP conversation on WhatsApp in our three groups: English, French, or Spanish; or in our ECCP LinkedIn group.

Our next general monthly networking meeting will be held Tuesday 15 September at 14h CET. You can register your interest on this sign-up sheet if you’d like to receive calendar invitations for our monthly meetings.

Our ECCP Community Fund is officially open for its third round! 💚 You can find all the details & proposal form on our ECCP Fund webpage: ecosystemforpeace.org/eccpfund.

As a reminder, the purpose of the ECCP Community Fund is to provide financial support to specific projects within the Community of Practice initiated by community members. The projects supported by the fund should align with the mission of the ECCP: learning, connecting, and taking action together.

Looking for inspiration? You can see the projects from round 1 here and round 2 here. You can also read our learning brief from the 2025 pilot here.

The idea for these engagement pathways first came from our Decolonization Discussion Group. After some polling in our WhatsApp groups, we’re happy to introduce three new ways that you can meet your ECCPeers.

Coffee chats - The idea is simple: Fill in this short form about yourself and we ‘match’ you with another ECCP member, introduce the two of you, and you can schedule a coffee chat!

ECCP Eats - Sign up to join a zoom call over a 2 hour window to enjoy a meal with other ECCP members. You make & bring your own food (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack!), and we build community by eating together! Our English session will be Tuesday 22 September, 18-20h CET.

ECCP WhatsApp-A-Thon - We have invented a word! Sign up to join a day-long relationship-building conversation on a dedicated WhatsApp thread. You will be invited to share your experiences and ideas with a group of people who want to create community across global distance.

The focus of the conversation will be getting to know each other and our environmental spaces: Swapping stories through videos, photos, voice notes, and detailed text notes - not asking for resources, seeking funding, etc. A team of facilitators will be online to prompt for stories and support translation.

Members of the Business and Conflict & ECCP Communities of Practice have collaborated over the course of 2026 on a series of briefs and resources related to the green transition and created a brand-new Hub. This includes applying conflict sensitivity to critical minerals, energy (more broadly), agriculture, forests, and land use.

The working group is now looking for your help! If you have familiarity with political actors, companies, investors, or industry, or just want to lend a hand, click below.

Please fill in this survey by 15 September.

Many ECCP members are on the ground in Ulaanbaatar for COP17 of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. A curated list of events related to peace and security is here.

Perhaps most excitingly, COP17 also marks the launch of the CSO‑led Declaration on Land, Peace & Security! The Declaration has now been endorsed by more than 470 organizations from 80+ countries. You can learn more (and endorse) here.

Want to get involved?

  • Endorse and/or share the declaration with colleagues, partners, and negotiators.

  • If you’re onsite, attend the declaration launch on 20 August! We have a small WhatsApp group on UNCCD - please email ecosystemforpeace@gmail.com if you’d like to join.

  • And wherever you are, share stories on how land degradation (and restoration) contributes to insecurity (and peace).

Finally…

Are you based in or near East Africa or Nairobi? Our regional coordinator Dancan Okoth wants to hear from you! He's created a rapid response survey to build a picture of regional members' understanding of ECCP, level of participation, importance of the community engagement and identification of members' priorities. Please complete this survey by 21 August.

Alright, I think this is officially the longest email newsletter ever drafted in ECCP history, so I’ve got to to wrap things up here.

I cannot thank you enough for your engagement, care, action, thought, and presence. You are what makes the ECCP special!

See you online soon,

Annika
