Building on the reception of last week’s article on emotional labour, I wanted to develop a resource that could become something actionable. A reflective guide to help individuals unpack where and how we and our institutions might be contributing to the load 💭
However, the scale of the response I received on this article suggested to me that the creation of something like this might best be done collectively. Across comments, messages, and emails, more than 30 people shared their views and experiences with emotional labour with me. I learned that this is a topic that resonates strongly with the disability community in the broadest sense, and that many of you might be interested in being part of a movement towards solutions.
So, today I’m sharing the first draft of a new premium resource, Reflecting on Emotional Labour, and I’m interested in your input. I’ve collected some questions and prompts I think might be useful for individual reflection on emotional labour, particularly for those in leadership, supervisory roles, or other positions of power and influence. Let me know your thoughts in the comments, or in the subscriber chat! 💬
In a couple of weeks, once I’ve reviewed your input I’ll pull this into a properly formatted resource that reflects the insights of the Higher Hopes community.
