February felt like a turning point for EA Belgium. EA Summit: Brussels was the biggest event we have organised to date, and the response we got back was genuinely heartening. A full day of talks, workshops, and conversations across AI safety, global health, and animal welfare, with 170 people in attendance.
We have a packed spring ahead. Below you will find upcoming events, a few community updates, and some opportunities we think are worth your time.

As AI progress continues to accelerate, within a decade we humans may no longer be the smartest “species” on our planet. At a minimum, the next couple of years are going to get profoundly weird.

Join us for a casual evening conversation about what it takes to start your own nonprofit. Our guest Marin Vandamme spent five years at McKinsey before deciding to launch The Protein Project, a Brussels-based organisation building coalitions across the food system to advance protein diversification in Europe. Marin will share what prompted the move, what he’s learned about building an organisation, and how he navigates the Brussels policy landscape as a nonprofit founder, followed by an open Q&A. The evening will continue with informal networking and conversation.

We are very proud of how EA Summit: Brussels went! The day combined talks, workshops and networking with topics spanning AI safety, global health, and animal welfare.
The survey results were strong: the 69 respondents gave the event a likelihood-to-recommend score of 8.62 out of 10, and 64% said it was a notably or much better use of their time.
The impact extended beyond the sessions. Giving What We Can ran a pledge booth throughout the day with a target of just 2 Trial Pledges. The results far exceeded that: 7 pledges were made in total - 4 people taking the 🔸 10% Pledge and 3 taking the 🔹 Trial Pledge. This represents $430,000 in expected lifetime giving, or $65,000 when counterfactually adjusted. Effectief Geven also held a booth, engaging with over 50 attendees in conversations around effective giving.
None of this would have happened without our speakers, the organisations who joined the fair, the team at Flagey for the beautiful venue, caterer Brut for keeping everyone fed, CEA for their support, and our volunteers and mentors who gave their time to keep the day running smoothly. Thank you to everyone who came and contributed to the conversations.

Effectief Geven had a remarkable 2025: their total donation volume grew sevenfold, driven entirely by people choosing to give on their own initiative after reading their recommendations. Read more here (Dutch).
To keep up with that growth, they're looking for Dutch-speaking volunteers, each willing to commit around one day a week. They are mainly on the lookout for an experienced copywriter and a social media manager. If volunteering isn't your thing but paid freelance work is, they're open to that too.
