What Happens Between the Kickstarters?

If you’ve followed my work for a while, there’s a pretty good chance you’ve joined me for a Kickstarter campaign, picked up something at an event, or followed Dust Bunny Mafia and my other comics online.

Kickstarter has become a big part of how I bring larger projects to life. But there’s always a lot happening between those campaigns—new comics, sketches, historical research, characters in development, trips to interesting places, and ideas that may still be months or even years away from becoming a finished book.

I’ve been looking for a better home for all of that.

That’s what I’m building on Patreon.

I’ve already put together a growing library of comics, behind-the-scenes material, historical posts, project updates, and other pieces of the creative process that don’t always have a natural home on my regular social media.

For those who want to follow along casually, you can join for free. I’m using public posts and Patreon’s Quips to share comics, artwork, quick updates, historical oddities, and other things I think are worth sharing.

For those who want to go a little further behind the scenes, my Made Man members get new comics at least 24 hours before I release them publicly, along with members-only artwork, works in progress, expanded historical research, and a closer look at whatever I’m currently creating.

And at the Capo level, members receive all of that plus a physical reward for every three consecutive months of membership.

Some of you may already be following me there—or may have received an invitation from me recently—and if so, thank you for being among the first people helping me build this new community.

I recently started sharing my Mob Rules single-panel comics through Patreon as well, beginning with Mob Rule #51: Dead Men Don’t Pay. I’m also experimenting with posts that go deeper into the history and places behind my work, including expanded photos and stories from some of my research trips.

The goal isn’t to move my comics behind a paywall. My finished comics will continue to be released publicly just like they always have.

Instead, Patreon gives me a place to share more of what happens along the way—and gives you another way to keep up with my work between Kickstarter campaigns.
