Last week on Substack, I spoke about giving a workshop at a global corporation. The workshop was about “courageous conversations”—or how to talk to people even when you feel afraid or unsure.
They have a saying at that company I visited: “Bad news doesn’t get better with age.” What they mean is that difficult conversations aren’t like fine wine. The longer you wait to talk to people about tough topics, the worse the conversations will probably go.
What does get better with age—and practice—is your ability to brave those scary conversations. Here are some pointers to share with twentysomethings or college students—and to remember in those courageous conversations of your own:
