As a small preamble, I do not want to incite fear. I wrote this to inform, support and help you keep your children safe. If anything you read here raises your concerns, don’t hesitate to take action. No, you are not overreacting. Seeking support might lead to help and safety, or simply reassurance. All these outcomes are positive. I have added resources at the end of this article to support you and your children.
A few months ago, we received an email in the evening from our child’s school that had the opening paragraph:
Today, a member of the public approached the school gates at the side of the back playground and attempted to engage with pupils. Families of any pupils directly affected or requiring further information have been contacted.
Cue every group WhatsApp exploding with comments. From some parents saying it was ‘terrifying’ to several others saying we need to get CCTV cameras fitted all around the school grounds, and possibly a patrolling policeman on the residential road…
