In the moments before this morning’s amiable summer downpour,
I could sense its impending presence —
The atmosphere became lush with moisture,
my paper slick and slackened,
my hair textured, my skin dewey.
I could touch and taste the air,
aware of its shifting composition
newly saturated with the promise of life-giving condensation.
As you variously make me aware of elemental shifts
in my otherwise unperceived environment,
may that divination fill me with anticipation,
an expectant delight in the givenness to come.
