Purpose in Every Season

“He has made everything beautiful in its time.” Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV)

Reflection:

Have you ever looked at your life and thought, “I thought I would be much further by now”?

Perhaps you imagined a different career, a different financial position, a different family situation, or simply a clearer sense of where your life was going.

Then reality happened.

Plans changed. Doors closed. Some things took longer than expected. And somewhere between what you imagined and what actually happened, you began wondering whether you had somehow missed God’s plan.

Maybe you haven’t.

Maybe you are simply in a season.

A farmer does not dig up a seed every morning to check whether it is growing. He plants it, tends the soil and waits. Beneath the ground, where nothing appears to be happening, something is already taking place.

Our lives can be like that.

Some seasons produce visible results. Others produce roots.

Joseph’s prison looked nothing like his dream. David’s years in the wilderness did not resemble a royal palace. Moses spent decades in obscurity before his assignment became clear.

Yet none of those seasons were wasted.

God was forming something in them before He revealed something through them.

We often ask, “What am I achieving?”

Perhaps a better question for some seasons is, “What is God forming in me?”

Patience may be forming.

Character may be deepening.

Wisdom may be developing.

A relationship may be preparing you for something you cannot yet see.

Even ordinary responsibilities can carry eternal significance when they are lived faithfully before God.

Purpose is not reserved for dramatic moments.

It can be found in raising children, doing honest work, caring for someone, learning, serving, healing, waiting and remaining faithful when nobody notices.

So don’t despise the chapter you are currently living.

You may not understand its importance yet.

But the Author does.

• Galatians 6:9 — Faithfulness produces a harvest in due season.

• Psalm 1:3 — Fruit comes in its appointed season.

Ask yourself today: “What does faithfulness look like in my present season?” Then do that one thing well. You do not need tomorrow’s assignment to obey God today.

Prayer:

Lord, help me recognise Your purpose in this season. Keep me faithful when I cannot see results, patient when I am waiting, and grateful for the work You are doing in me. Amen.

Deeper Thought:

Some seasons are for fruit. Others are for roots. Both are necessary if the tree is going to stand.
