Only dead things are put on ice

The following is a tragic tale…

And something you should be aware of, especially if you’re into biohacking.

As shared on Twitter by Rick Pescatore, D.O.…

======

Dad took his 12-year-old for a cold plunge. A bit of bonding through wellness. The kid had just warmed up in the hot tub. He jumped in, gasped, and went under.

By the time they pulled him out, his heart had stopped. I coded him for over an hour before I told his dad he was dead.

======

Like I said earlier, just terrible.

The father saw this as a bonding experience with his son…

But there are plenty of men and women around the world who do cold plunges in the name of “health.”

Athletes, influencers, CEOs, and biohackers all swear by it, but as I pointed out in my reply, cold plunges are just a temporary tool for relief that don’t actually fix anything…

======

Cold plunges make people ‘feel better’ temporarily because they trigger a surge of noradrenaline (norepinephrine) into the system.

Abuse this reality acutely or chronically, and unintended consequences can and will happen.

A terrible, sad story to be sure. Paraphrasing Traditional Chinese Medicine ideas… ‘only dead things are put on ice.’

Cold plunges have their uses. They do NOT fix any root cause of poor health, though; they use stress hormones to suppress symptoms… and this is demonstrated by the symptoms coming back when people stop doing them.

======

In other words, it’s a temporary fix for a deeper issue.

Like the original post pointed out, only a select few people can even tolerate cold plunges.

(I can’t tell you how many people tell me they struggle to do 30 seconds in a cold shower, let alone a plunge.)

The truth is, there are far more convenient ways to manage pain…

  • Aspirin

  • OTC drugs

  • Vitamin C

  • Turmeric

  • Black seed “motor-smelling” oil

All of these have a history of providing relief, but just like cold plunges, they don’t address the root cause.

Take scurvy as an example…

Most people believe scurvy was caused by a Vitamin C deficiency that led to the deaths of nearly a million British sailors from the 16th to 18th century.

But historical dietary records tell a different story—it wasn’t just a lack of Vitamin C. The sailors were fed an array of toxic foods due to rationing issues:

======

“In 1677, Samuel Pepys, the Secretary to the Admiralty, copied into his Naval Precedents a contract he established with victuallers to the Navy. This document established predetermined rations for each sailor, which included one pound of biscuits and a gallon of beer each day, and four pounds of beef, two pounds of salted pork, three-eighths of a twenty-four-inch cod, two pints of peas, six ounces of butter, and between eight and twelve ounces of cheese each week. When victuallers could not provide these specific foods, Pepys also established substitutes…”

======

Beer, salted pork, cod, butter…

Does any of this sound healthy?

If you’re like me, you’re thinking, not a chance. It makes perfect sense why these sailors got scurvy!

We don’t even need to go that far back to prove the point.

The carnivore community—specifically those following the all-muscle-meat version (not the nose-to-tail crowd sickos)—don’t have scurvy issues, despite eating only muscle meat and salt.

Yet, they aren’t flooding emergency rooms with scurvy symptoms.

Here’s the deal: from cold plunges to modern pain meds, most remedies are just symptom managers—and at worst, liver toxins.

If we’re going to solve this problem, we have to address the real root cause…

Which comes down to the toxins stored inside us.

One way to start gradually removing those toxins? Nutrition Detective Flush Niacin!

Studies show this powerful nutrient offers multiple benefits, including:

✔️ Flattening inflammation
✔️ Increasing bile production
✔️ Repairing a leaky gut
✔️ Reducing allergic reactions
✔️ Protecting against sun damage (by helping remove embedded toxins in the skin)

And most importantly, oxidizing toxins within your body so they can be flushed out for good!

But here’s the thing… You don’t want to jump straight into a high dose.

That’s why I offer both a 25 mg and 500 mg option:

🔹 New to niacin? Start with 25 mg, which you can find here (Work up slowly).

🔹 Can tolerate more? Go for 500 mg (Always pair it with a buffer, as discussed in the Love Your Liver program), which you can find here.

To the pursuit of better health,

Garrett Smith, NMD

P.S. For those in the Love Your Liver Program, you can find the discounted bottles of Flush Niacin at the links below:
