We’ve now been open for eight days, and the course has really come to life. Conditions have improved significantly, with the greens filling in nicely, and we’ve received a lot of positive feedback on the work completed over the winter.

From opening Thursday through Mother’s Day, we welcomed more than 150 golfers each day, an incredible start to the season.

On Tuesday evening, about 85 players joined us for the Men’s Opening Scramble. It was a great turnout, with plenty of memorable moments throughout the night.

One of the more eventful highlights came from a mix-up in the golf shop. A scorecard intended for Bryan Tkachuk’s team was accidentally given to John Tkachuk’s team. Although staff knew they were different players, there was a momentary assumption they were on the same team, which they definitely weren’t. That mistake stuck with us right to the end of the night. The winning score of -7, posted by John Tkachuk, Curtis Carter, Josh Getzinger, and Harvey Jimenez, ended up being recorded on that misplaced card. Initially, we believed Bryan’s team had won based on the card submitted, but in the end, it was John’s team who rightfully took the victory. A bit chaotic, but a good laugh all around.

There was also a funny moment during the 50/50 draw. The club added a bonus prize—a Titleist Vokey wedge alongside the cash pot. When the tickets were drawn, Mitch Nelson won the 50/50. Then, incredibly, his name was drawn again for the wedge. Whether he bought a mountain of tickets or the mixing could’ve used some work is still up for debate, but it definitely got a laugh from the crowd.

The latest forecast for the weekend is looking much better than it did earlier. Current reports are showing little to no precipitation, and overall conditions are shaping up to be quite reasonable for a Drayton Valley May Long Weekend, definitely very playable.

At the conclusion of the Men’s Opening Scramble, tee times were released for next Tuesday’s first official Men’s Day, and the response has been strong. We already have 64 players booked between 4:30 PM and 7:30 PM.

For those still planning to play, the following tee times remain available:

Please note that teams and players are welcome to play earlier in the day as well; however, singles will not be permitted to enter their score.

Also, a reminder that pace of play will be significantly improved compared to the previous league format. If we can maintain a quicker pace, we may be able to expand to larger groups and accommodate more golfers moving forward.

We’ve also simplified the fee structure to clear up any confusion. Players are asked to sign up as part of a team, with a flat fee of $50 per player. Ideally, teams should consist of 4–10 players. For example, a 4-player team would be $200, while an 8-player team would be $400. There is no longer a separate individual fee—just the single $50 registration. The optional games pot (SNIPs) is an additional $110 for the 11-week regular season, or $10 per week.

The competition format will be individual play using a Stableford scoring system, based on net scores. Points are awarded as follows:

• Hole-in-One: 6 points

• Double Eagle: 5 points

• Eagle: 4 points

• Birdie: 3 points

• Par: 2 points

• Bogey: 1 point

• Double Bogey or worse: 0 points

This net-based system creates a more balanced and competitive environment for all skill levels. To participate, all players will need a Golf Canada handicap index and must enter scores each week. From this, an 18-hole course handicap will be established and then halved (and rounded up) for 9-hole play. Strokes will be allocated based on hole difficulty as shown on the scorecard.

Players will only need to record their gross scores, as Stableford points and standings will be automatically calculated using Golf Genius software, which we have been testing.

Both individual and team competitions will be tracked, with the best two scores counting toward each team’s total.

Our first Ladies Night kicks off next Wednesday at 6:00 PM—everyone is welcome!

  (Both options include entry into nightly prizes)

• A cash-only 50/50 draw will also be held each week

• Please sign up as a group of four. If you don’t have a group, we’ll be happy to place you with others

• 9 holes with half a cart: $40

• 6:00 PM Shotgun Start
  (Please be on your assigned hole and ready to tee off at 6:00 PM)

• Amplified Kitchen will be taking orders before play and will have your food ready upstairs when you finish

Our first Sunday Junior League will take place on May 24th, with dedicated junior tee times running from 4:24 PM to 6:30 PM. A total of 15 tee times are available, providing space for up to 60 junior members to play in groups of four.

Parents are encouraged to walk along, especially with younger participants.

Juniors have the flexibility to play 2 holes, 5 holes, or the full 9 holes. Players may tee off from the front copper tees or choose a distance marker of 200, 150, or 100 yards, depending on their skill level. Groups will be organized by age to ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone.

The Kick-Off to Golf is a fun, inclusive day to celebrate the start of the 2026 golf season. It’s open to all men, women, and juniors playing that day up until 4:30 PM.

For $10, participants will receive a hot dog and entry into on-course prize contests for men, ladies, and juniors, including long drive, KP, and longest putt.

We’ll also have a Callaway representative on-site from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM offering club demos and fitting sessions, along with our Long Drink rep providing samples during the same time.

We have a few projects underway around the club:

• The clubhouse will be painted next week, from May 18–21.

• We’ll also be installing a new first tee clock out front near the putting green—more details on that coming soon.

• In preparation for these upgrades, underground lines have been installed to provide power to the clock, support additional sprinkler heads, and allow for the addition of a fountain in the new #9 pond.

There’s still time to sign up for the season! We offer a variety of membership options, including single, junior, youth, couples, family, associate, and corporate passes.

For 2026, our regular weekly schedule (excluding events) is as follows:

• Mondays: Open tee sheet

• Tuesdays: Men’s Day — open tee sheet until 4:15 PM. Any unbooked evening Men’s times will be released for general play

• Wednesdays: Ladies’ Night on 9 holes, with the opposite 9 remaining open

• Thursdays: Open tee sheet

• Fridays: Open tee sheet

• Saturdays: Open tee sheet

• Sundays: Open tee sheet until 4:30 PM, followed by 9-hole Junior League tee times. The opposite 9 will remain available in the evening

With Men’s Day now on Tuesdays, we’ve opened up Thursday evenings throughout the spring and summer—providing more flexibility and access for all membership categories.
