I’ve always been fascinated with blogs. In my opinion, they are sometimes an even better (digital) representation of a person than social media.
I’ve been reading blogs for a while now - different types.
For instance, when I travel to a new city, I like to check in advance cool spots one should visit. Not only for their beauty, but also historical, cultural, and social importance. And travel blogs are one of the best resources, since the authors not only provide in depth information, but also personal experiences which give you an insight into their thinking & preferences.
Since I started browsing Hacker News a couple years ago, I discovered many other personal blogs shared on the website, with topics ranging from programming, mathematics, photography, and self-work. I’ll make sure to share some of my favorites in a future post.
However, there’s something that really attracted me to these blogs I’ve been reading. It’s the way the author’s thoughts are put into words. Some writings are so rich and full of context, that I tend to forget that I’m not reading an actual book. Many of these authors indicate that writing helps them structure and better organize their thoughts, improve critical thinking, and engage in meaningful discussions with their friends & readers.
Well, that’s exactly why I want to write. Having many ideas and thoughts is a great thing, it shows creativity and desire for novelty. But not putting them down, at least on a piece of paper, doesn’t bring these ideas to reality. Something I haven’t been the best at, I have to admit…
I hope that through writing, I’ll be able to think more coherently and also keep myself more accountable in implementing my ideas. It’d also be cool to look back at this in the future and see the person I was & became.
Now, as for the blog, there are a few scopes I want to set for myself:
- I will keep this blog true to my thoughts & opinions. Everything appearing here should reflect what I think or research - without any usage of AI to assist me.
- I will write about anything that comes to mind and I want to share. I don’t want to reach a “creator’s block” simply because I wish to follow trendy topics discussed today.
- I will keep writing - even on days when I won’t feel like, I’ll at least provide small updates or talk about something random. It may be that I will also write & keep to myself only, which is also great, since that’s my goal - keep writing.
I think that’s it. Let’s get started!
