There are some conversations that require more than commentary.
They require prayer.
As I reflect on the stories we continue to hear—stories of abuse, violence, exploitation, and harm against women—I find myself holding both gratitude and grief.
I am grateful that I have never personally experienced abuse, nor have those closest to me.
That is a gift I do not take for granted.
Yet I have witnessed the impact of violence and trauma in my community. I have listened to the stories. I have seen the aftermath. I have watched women wrestle with wounds that were not visible to the eye but shaped how they moved through the world.
And beneath many of those stories lies a deeper question:
Whether he is a father, brother, friend, pastor, colleague, husband, or significant other—can I trust him with my heart, my body, my vulnerability, my well-being?
For many women, the question extends even further:
And when harm does occur, the questions become even more difficult.
Why didn’t God intervene?
Why wasn’t there a way of escape?
Why did my sister have to endure that?
Where was God in the midst of her suffering?
These are not simple questions. They are sacred questions.
Scripture does not ask us to ignore them. Throughout the Psalms, we see faithful people bringing their confusion, grief, fear, and disappointment directly to God. Faith has never required silence in the face of suffering. Faith invites us to bring our whole selves before the One who sees, hears, and understands.
As Black women, many of us carry a unique burden. We are often expected to be resilient in the face of pain, strong in the face of adversity, and unwavering in the face of uncertainty.
But strength does not mean we do not need support.
And resilience does not mean we do not need prayer.
That is why Black Women Pray is honored to partner with the Truth’s Table Foundation to host a special virtual prayer gathering dedicated to the safety, healing, and peace of Black women.
We will gather not because we have all the answers, but because we know the God who welcomes our questions.
We will gather to pray for women who are healing, women who are afraid, women who are waiting, women who are grieving, and women who simply need to be reminded that they are seen and deeply loved by God.
Join me, Dr. Aerial Ellis, and co-founders of the Truth’s Table Foundation, Dr. Christina Edmondson and Ekemini Uwan, MDiv, on Monday, June 15, 2026, 8 PM CT / 9 PM ET, as we lead this moment.
