Hello and happy spring to all who celebrate.
It’s us, Dozen, the group of friends working on a postcard sending service.
We want to say that we spent the first quarter of the year heads down working, but that’s not completely true; in reality it included a lot of travel and moving, specifically Aiden moving to Lisbon in March, Ben preparing to move to Berlin in May, and Ze’ev hopefully following the European migration later in the year.
Nevertheless, we made some great updates to our humble postcard sending service and for some wonderful reason, you’ve opted in to hear about it. The updates:
We don’t have robots writing your postcards (for now) but the new process is a whole lot smoother.
Before, we had to…
Manually email customers asking for them to reply with their postcard content.
Design and export the postcards in Figma.
Upload and send the postcards through our postcard vendor.
Now…
Customers get emailed automatically every month
Customers go to our website to upload their own photos and add their message and address. It works great from both desktop and mobile.
Non-customers who sign up on our website can also try out making a postcard before they pay.
This means quicker delivery and more time for us to spend improving the service instead of manually fulfilling orders. Kudos to Ze’ev for making the magic happen behind the scenes.
Getpostcards.co is short, but it’s difficult to say and remember: is it postcard or postcards? Is it .co or .com? It doesn’t have a lot of personality.
Browsing available URLs is quite addicting, so after considering many alternatives, we’re excited to share sendmorepostcards.com. It’s a bit longer, but it has some pros:
.com is more familiar and easier to remember.
As a command it feels like something to rally behind.
It’s great on a t-shirt (à la Reggie Watts).
What do you think? Want a shirt? We’ll be migrating to our new URL soon, but don’t worry the old URL will redirect.
Despite having 13 extremely good-looking, paying customers, we haven’t done any real marketing other than posting here and on LinkedIn. Our next milestone is a sign up from someone we don’t personally know.
The question is: how? First we’ll post on forums like Reddit and Producthunt. We’ll also start creating content on Instagram (and if we’re brave enough: Tiktok). We’re also experimenting with some user testing platforms to see what copy and branding resonates most with people, like this light version on Instagram:
Open to any and all marketing ideas, especially if they cost time instead of money.
Try making a postcard — All you need is an email, and only pay if you decide to send the postcard. Let us know how we can improve the experience.
Spread the word — forward this email your friends and family who could benefit from sending a postcard or two (so everybody).
Reply to this email — with responses to the questions in this post or share how you connect with people who live far away. We read and respond to every message.
Until next time,
Aiden, Ze’ev, and Zod
