Welcome back to Recs, the weekly download of books, culture, and other delights from my week. I’ve extended my anniversary sale, in case you’d like to join us in the future for any paid-subs-only posts.
Hi! How was your week? My son started daycare this week, which sent me into a mini tailspin of guilt - solidarity if you’re there too, I remember this exact spiral with my daughter, and I know it passes.
Today’s letter has lots of passionate recs, including a book I’m currently manifesting an entire summer around. Enjoy and happy Friday! x
What I’m currently reading… Future Perfect by Cay Kim, a debut novel set across Seoul and the U.S. So far, it’s got a dreamlike quality and a unique second-person perspective; a little slow to get into, but I’m intrigued. (Published June 23)
What’s new to my to-read list… Waist Deep by Linea Maja Ernst. This translated work was released in June and it keeps popping up on my feeds. All I have written down in my notes is “Sexy Danish Lakeside Summer,” and you know what, I think that’s perfect and all you need to know. The cover is giving The Worst Person in the World vibes. (Published June 9)
What are you stashing into your summer tote?
Eating: I know, I know. “In-season fruit is delicious!” is the most obvious sentence I could write. But it IS! My little joy this week was a big handful of cherries in a bowl, shared with Lily, juice stains and all (learned that one the hard way).
The kitchen towel is a favorite Etsy find from an adorable Maine based seller. Drinking: I’ve been loving a lovely little evening treat to calm my nerves, winding down with this bubbly red wine1 while
watchingshielding my eyes from Widow’s Bay. Lambrusco forever! I’m tuning into The Five-Star Weekend next, an Elin Hilderbrand adaptation which looks perfectly cheesy and just as bubbly.
