He’d been hanging around the main lodge, perching in the trees, maybe hoping for a handout.

Meet Bruce, the young Red-tailed Hawk.

He's quite the handsome fellow.

I’m not sure how old he is (I might have been told but forgot), but I am sure there are experienced birders and banders among you who can tell us.

He’s getting his red tail and still has a lot of white feathers on his back.

Red-tailed Hawks are North America’s second-largest hawk after the Ferruginous Hawk.

That belly band is always a good ID mark for Red-tailed Hawks. And those talons look fierce—he is quite capable of hunting!

Do you recognize their hoarse kee-eee-arrr call?!
