This session examines truth not as a neutral abstraction but as a force that shapes power, responsibility, and the possibility/reality of justice. We explore how truth operates across personal experience, social systems, and collective struggle—and how distorted understandings of reality sustain harm while clearer understanding opens pathways toward liberation.
We are not treating truth as purely objective or merely subjective; we hold a necessary tension: some realities exist independently of belief, while our access to them is always mediated by history, culture, language, trauma, and power. We examine how domination relies not only on lies, but on partial truths, silences, and “common sense” frameworks that conceal material conditions and social relations.
We ask not what is true, but who decides, who benefits, and what truth makes possible.
Key distinctions include:
Absolute vs. relative and provisional truth
Reality vs. socially mediated knowledge
Understanding vs. ideology
Awareness vs. collective agency
Information vs. liberatory understanding
False consciousness, ideological distortion, and structural media bias
The Praxis Wheel itself is a trauma-aware, liberation-focused guide for practicing safety, dignity, and shared power. We continue to explore how eight interconnected principles can help us stay grounded in justice, compassion, and creative resilience.
The Eight Spokes:
Trauma-Informed / Trauma-Sensitive
Culturally-Relevant / Identity-Affirming
Accessibility / Nuanced Participation
Empathetic Concern / Compassionate Action
Embodied Mindfulness
Educational & Transformational Practices
Accountability / Collective Agency
Liberatory Truth / Understanding Justice
The Praxis Wheel is a conceptual compass for grounding therapeutic and activist work in compassion, awareness, and justice. It offers guidance for ethical, adaptive engagement across disciplines — from music and art to mutual aid, education, and spiritual companionship. No spoke is more important than another; all are relational, interconnected, and responsive to community need.
Join this 11-week exploration of Liberation Music Therapy — a framework for healing, creativity, and collective resistance developed by board-certified music therapist and composer Dorian Wallace.
Each 90-minute session unpacks a key concept from The Praxis Wheel — a model for ethical, responsive, and culturally grounded engagement in therapy, education, and artivism.
This series’ core focus is to demystify capitalist realism and explore how capitalism shapes our understanding of the arts, mental health, class, caste, and political economy. Open to all — therapists, artists, educators, healers, and anyone drawn to the intersection of sound, care, and liberation. I am using this time to develop this into a professional development course or continuing education credits.
Attendance is encouraged but not required; each session stands alone while contributing to a larger arc.
