Saudi Arabia wants to buy a couple of nuclear reactors. The Trump administration landed the deal over Red China, Russia, South Korea and France. The only thing that can stop having Westinghouse build the plants and supply low-grade fuel is Congress.
Our competitors are up to the challenge as they try to manipulate the media and Congress.
CNBC reported hysterically, “Trump’s Saudi nuclear deal reaches Congress as experts warn of proliferation risk.”
By proliferation, the corporate clowns mean nuclear warheads. The story said:
Some Democrat lawmakers and nonproliferation advocates have criticized the pact for not including a permanent prohibition on enrichment or reprocessing, and for weakening standard controls against converting the technology to military use. Instead, the deal proposes a U.S.-built and operated enrichment facility subject to a two-year feasibility study.
“Washington is right to strengthen its relationship with Riyadh, but it should not do so at the expense of its effective nuclear weapons nonproliferation standards,” Matthew Kroenig, a senior fellow at the Washington-based think tank the Atlantic Council, said in July.
Kroenig expects the two-year feasibility study to conclude that Saudi Arabia should rely solely on imported fuel-cycle services, as most countries with peaceful nuclear programs do. “This would be a much better outcome than exporting a bomb-making capability to an additional country in an already volatile region,” he said.
A two-year feasibility study is unnecessary because civilian use of nuclear energy has been feasible since June 27, 1954, when the USSR opened the first nuclear reactor in a town outside Moscow. It ran for 48 years.
31 countries have nuclear power plants. Few of them have nukes because commercial grade fuel is low-grade uranium, enriched 3% to 5%.
Weapons-grade uranium is at least 90% enriched.
What Democrats want to do is scuttle the deal, which would allow Red China or some other country land the contract while the USA sits on the sidelines for two years with its thumb up its feasibility.
Democrat Congressman Brad Sherman said last month, “We are bombing Iran because they insist upon enriching and reprocessing. We are entering into an agreement with Saudi Arabia, giving them the green light to reprocess and to enrich. And the only difference I see here is that Westinghouse stands to make an awful lot of money on this deal, whereas the Iranians were not enriching American companies.”
But there will be inspections, just not by the UN. Iran had UN inspections. That didn’t stop its pursuit of atomic bombs.
Democrat Senator Ed “Malarkey” Markey said, “Trump’s and Secretary Rubio’s hypocrisy is matched only by their recklessness. They are allowing Saudi Arabia, a belligerent and authoritarian nation, to develop nuclear weapons technologies while starting a war with Iran under the guise of preventing an Iranian nuclear bomb. This deal would make us all less safe.”
Under the guise? Well under the debate clause of the Constitution, members of Congress are allowed to lie like pigs in their own waste without consequence.
A year earlier, the senator said of Operation Midnight Hammer, “Trump’s illegal actions raise the threat of escalation into a wider regional war with grave risks for U.S. troops and civilians in the region.”
It is legal under the War Powers Act.
This hysteria reminds me of the film The China Syndrome, which was based on two lies: 1. that a corporation would build an unsafe nuclear reactor near Los Angeles and 2. that a nuclear reactor could meltdown all the way to the core of the Earth and then continue on its way to Red China. Jane Fonda was the female lead. That was all you needed to know.
But the film was great propaganda that kept us from making nuclear reactors in America.
The real China Syndrome is Red China’s economic power. We will see if Congress will cede the nuclear power industry to Red China.
