Idenia opened her eyes to find she was back in her room, afternoon sunlight streaming through the window. As she lifted her head to look out, she saw Vanya rise from a chair in the corner. The young woman laid aside the book she had been reading, came to Idenia’s bedside, and grasped her hand.
“I can’t tell you how glad I am to see your eyes open once again,” Vanya exclaimed. “I was beginning to wonder if you’d ever awaken.”
“What happened?”
