The 2026 Dominican Writers Conference: Reclaiming Our Palabras takes place May 1–2 at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City, and this year we are proud to dedicate the conference to Julia Alvarez — a writer who never stopped telling Dominican stories on her own terms, in her own voice, for her own people.

Two days of panels, workshops, and masterclass lunches built for writers who are in it — conversations about craft, publishing, audience, identity, and what it means to sustain a creative life. You will be in the room with editors, agents, literary consultants, and a community of Dominican writers who are building something just like you are. The connections you make here will follow you back to your desk.
