Hey all,

There’s an ongoing copyright lawsuit involving Doge-related imagery and a crypto project that’s currently active in federal court.

Assertions in the lawsuit:

Own The Doge claims that Atsuko Sato (owner of Kabuso) licensed to them:

  • The right to "stand in Sato's shoes... register, enforce, defend, and otherwise act as Sato in any commercial or legal matters relating to the licensed materials."

  • That the licensing agreement between them grants "...the broadest grant of rights possible under applicable law..." and the right to "stand in Licensor's shoes."

  • They claim that Atsuko licensed"...registered or unregistered trademarks, trade names, copyrights, logos, branding and designs... 'now or hereafter known'..." including future pets.

This is incredibly broad language and my concern is that, if accepted by the court, it could be interpreted as giving them broad reach over and including Dogecoin's branding, logo, etc

They further claim:

  • "the public has come to identify the Doge Meme and all related intellectual property, including the Cocoro IP, with Plaintiff and its products."

This is why we felt it was worth highlighting to the community at large for discussion.

Thanks,

GS
