Hey Subscribers,

It’s December 2025, and

Lidl-Trek have put together one of the best organised media days out of all the winter training camps.

Juan Ayuso is in good form, cracking jokes with the press following his move from UAE Team Emirates-XRG; Mads Pedersen and the roster of the men’s, women’s, and U23 teams are on hand for roundtables and one-to-one interviews; while the senior management flutter in and out of proceedings for their duties with the journalists in attendance. The team’s media crew have even laid out snacks from Lidl (natch). Later that evening, we break the news on Substack that Derek Gee-West is on his way to the team, but there’s one notable absentee from the press event.

Instead of being on hand for the handful of requests that were meant to go his way, Tao Geoghegan Hart has gone on what feels like a deliberate all-day bike ride, starting from the team’s base in Denia, Spain, and ending almost at sunset. He arrives back at the hotel just as the media day is concluding, and many of the press have gone home or to the bar to start writing up their stories.

Understandably, there is a simmering level of restlessness among those who had travelled to Spain to speak with Geoghegan Hart that day, but honestly, I’m not sure what they were expecting to find.
