Art Licensing Organization

There’s nothing better than being organized.

I can’t believe I’m saying that - me, a person who doesn’t like making detailed organization plans and lists and would do literally anything to avoid that kind of work.

For a long time, I felt like my work was all over the place, and I couldn’t focus. Although my art licensing business was growing, I felt like I was running in circles.

I was wasting a lot of time constantly looking for misplaced files, finding the same artworks saved under different names, and cross-checking licences. Truth be told, it was a mess.

At the beginning of this year, I decided it was time to change things up for myself. I completely reorganized my art licensing system and created a workflow that is sustainable, practical, and, most importantly, easy to use.

As trivial as it may sound, sorting out folders, files and database lists was exactly what I needed to finally shift my mindset and become more intentional about ‘running my own art business’.

I’m sharing my entire art licensing workflow organization in the new Skillshare class:

Watch The Class

I’ll walk you through my entire process, from folder organization, file naming, saving files, and creating artwork salesheets to organizing my licensing portfolio and client database with tags and filters using Google Sheets.

Highlight Section

One big highlight goes to the PEACE t-shirt design I made for a fundraising campaign with Print Social. 50% of the proceeds go to MAP - Medical Aid for Palestinians.

I‘m so proud of this project. With this illustration, I wanted to preserve the feeling I have when I open my sketchbook. There is something inexplicably beautiful and familiar about organic, messy, playful sketches. Many of these attributes get lost once I start refining and digitally colouring. So, this time, I let myself be as free and expressive as possible.

Take a look at all the sketches I used

I scanned them and digitally collaged different pieces together in a strong composition. This illustration is opening up a new era of the work I’m starting to make.

These t-shirts are available to preorder for a limited time. Grab them while you can:

I want blue

I want pink

Instagram has been lousy as always. The only way I can get the word out about this campaign is with the help of you, my fellow humans. Please share it, let’s raise money for a good cause, and let’s spread the word about peace, unity, and love for everyone everywhere (no exceptions and no ‘buts’).

Note to my email subscribers: I have moved my newsletter to the Substack platform. I want to spend more time creating meaningful content. I’ll try to keep in touch more often—once or twice a month. If you like what I’m doing here, say hi, leave a comment, and share this with your creative friends. If this is not your cup of tea, it’s okay to unsubscribe.

Thank you for reading.

Love,
Di
