Welcome! By the time you receive my next newsletter, I will have either completed my family’s first test camping trip, or discovered a spectacular new category of logistical failure.

For the past several months, we’ve been preparing to trade our suburban house for a camping trailer, a van, and an SUV. The plan is to spend the next year living on the road, making videos and sharing our work around the country while searching for the place where we eventually want to put down roots.

We’ve been doing all of this while welcoming a new baby, raising two toddlers, caring for two dogs, running a business, and attempting to maintain the polite fiction that we have our lives under control.

It’s only a three-day trip, but it’s meant to answer a long list of questions. Does everything actually fit? What’s it like to poop in a bucket? Can three small children coexist peacefully in roughly the square footage of a generous walk-in closet? These are the sorts of scientific questions we intend to investigate.

I’m especially looking forward to filming videos in front of lush natural landscapes instead of whatever corner of suburbia I can find.

Wish us luck. This is either the beginning of a wonderful adventure or the setup for an exceptionally entertaining newsletter.
