The last couple of weeks have been hard. My beloved sphynx cat Zigmund was diagnosed with advanced kidney disease a year and a half ago and given two months to live. Through medical interventions and constant care, he continued living his best cat life until about a month ago, when the disease flared up and we shifted to palliative care. Ziggy is comfortable and being treated by a home vet, receiving amazing care without the anxiety of carriers or medical offices.

The stress has been making it hard to focus on writing or photography, but last weekend I took my camera and went to photograph Clinamen, a sound installation at the Park Avenue Armory. It was the mental pause I needed. The soothing clicks of porcelain bowls drifting into one another were captivating, but even more so were the people who had come to seek refuge from the heat and density of the city. The three round pools transformed the Armory into a temporary oasis, a remarkable feat for any exhibition competing for attention in manic Manhattan.

This post is a series of photos of people surrendering their day to the hypnotic drone of Clinamen. I left the Armory feeling lighter. The installation is up until August 9th. Don’t miss it.
