Everything has been pretty serious here in Outspoken Cyclist land for a while, so it was a breath of fresh air to meet* someone who lifts you up - someone whose sense of humor just cracks you up. Dunno, reminds you of yourself or something. (*Meet as in discover her online.)
Her name is Amanda McMahon
Her Substack is titled “One Gear Short of Normal.” Rang true to me! It’s filled with often short and pithy posts and sometimes more serious stuff – encouraging, uplifting thoughts.
She races gravel bikes – that in itself should tell you something about her, although I’m not sure just what. And she’s a coach.
Then there’s her Facebook page: It’s full of great dialog between her and someone named Chad – I really want to know about Chad.
This week, for example, she is experiencing the cacophony of cicadas – it’s an experience Brian and I had a few years ago when riding on one of our usual paved trails, crunching the piles of insects under our wheels and pulling them out of our helmets, all while listening to the shrill noises.
I’m not sure where she finds time to do everything that she does, but I wanted to know more so of course I contacted her.
We’re making a date to talk. It should be a very interesting conversation!
Stay tuned!
