I woke up this morning and for a brief moment forgot that the world is not quite as beautiful as it was when I woke up yesterday. Then I remembered. The world is not as beautiful as it was when I woke up yesterday.

I never would have believed that a Saturday at home could become such a treasured commodity.

Be it ever so humble, there’s no place like home. I think I’ve spent seven nights in mine since the middle of May. But I woke up in my own bed this morning. Halleluiah.

I have been a lot of places in my lifetime.

There I was on Saturday afternoon. In Yankee Stadium watching Old Timer’s Day. My ten-year-old self would have never imagined such a thing. I had to hide my tears because my just-turned-twelve-year-old grandson was sitting beside me and, well, you know.

There are people in this world who have never seen 5:30 in the morning.

It’s August now. That used to be the best month of the year. It meant the countdown to the end of summer was beginning.

The kid was laughing out loud at his own hearing. Yukking it up while one of his victims was testifying.

There comes a point in every man’s life when he looks in the mirror and thinks, “You know, what this country really needs is another opinion.”

There will be a sweet sweet spirit in the air Friday night at Salem Campmeeting in Covington, just as there has been since the first time worshippers gathered beside the old spring on Salem Road in 1828. That’s 198 years. What else has been going strong in this country for 198 years?
