Anime used to be dismissed as a niche obsession or something you were supposed to “grow out of,” but now it has fully crossed over into the cultural mainstream. In 2025, Demon Slayer outgrossed every single Marvel and DC film released in the year and even ended up among the Top 10 Highest-Grossing Films of 2025.
The pandemic really kicked the popularity of the medium into another gear and turned it into a global obsession. But the foundation of the said popularity was laid in the 2010s, where the medium saw some of its most unique and daring storytelling clubbed together with some jaw-dropping animation in shows like One-Punch Man, My Hero Academia, Hunter x Hunter and Attack on Titan. As the streaming boom blew the doors wide open, these shows crossed over to the mainstream, and the rest of the world started paying attention to anime like never before.
The 2010s was stacked with quality anime, and from superheroes, to isekai, to reverse harems, there was something for everyone. Whether through cultural impact, singular art direction, emotional resonance, or sheer quality, this era delivered banger after banger.

The internet could be a bit of a chaotic place, and last year we decided to have some old-school fun through our newsletters by holding regular polls. Thanks to the excellent response for our first few polls, this month, we are asking our readers to choose some of their favourite anime from the 2010s.
While the decade also gave us plenty of incredible films, we limited ourselves to TV Anime that began in 2010 (sorry, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) for the sake of our collective sanity. Some entries earned their spot through influence, others through novelty and unconventionality, and some simply because they’re that damn good.
