One of the great pleasures of writing this Substack is the conversations it starts. So I’d like to invite those of you who pay to read my Substack to something a little different: an informal online discussion about one of the most important developments in digital money today.

“The Stablecoin Era: The History and Future of Stablecoins.”

Together we’ll explore why stablecoins matter, why they’re moving into the financial mainstream, and why we think the really interesting story lies beyond stablecoins themselves.

Rather than a presentation, this will be a conversation. We’ll discuss the ideas behind the paper, including:

• Why stablecoins may be less the destination than the bridge.

• What eighteenth-century England can teach us about digital money.

• Whether stablecoins are creating the foundations for an entirely new financial market infrastructure.

• What banks, central banks, fintechs and policymakers should really be paying attention to.

• And, of course, plenty of time for your questions and comments.

Think of it as the sort of discussion we’d have if we were sitting around a table after a conference, only without the conference coffee.
