I know exactly where Madonna lives, or at least where her two brownstones are. If you spend enough time immersed in New York fashion, you become oddly aware of things like that. That’s one of the things I love most about New York City. On any given day, you might spot someone famous grabbing a coffee, walking their dog, or just living their life.
Like so many women of my generation, I’ve loved Madonna for as long as I can remember. Not just because she’s a performer, but because she’s never stopped reinventing herself. For more than four decades she’s refused to let anyone else define her. She’s constantly evolving, constantly taking risks, and now, as she approaches 70, she’s still releasing new music, new fashion collabs and reminding all of us that creativity doesn’t have an expiration date.
One of my favorite Designer Revival moments happened on a random Thursday morning. I know the exact moment because I took a screenshot. It was Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 3:06 a.m. A message popped up from someone on Madonna’s styling team asking if Designer Revival might have a piece they could borrow for an upcoming event.
Nothing ultimately came of it. But I don’t think I’ve ever been happier to receive a message that led nowhere. For a few hours, there was a tiny thread connecting Designer Revival to one of the greatest style icons in fashion history and somehow, that was enough.
The other day, our interns wandered over to Madonna’s brownstones and filmed a hilarious Instagram reel outside. We all laughed because everyone in the store understood the fascination. Every time we walk by, we can’t help but wonder…Maybe today’s the day.
When I went to Madonna’s Celebration Tour, my husband surprised me with a Jean Paul Gaultier top for the concert. It couldn’t have been more perfect. Jean Paul Gaultier and Madonna have created some of fashion’s most iconic moments together, so wearing it felt like my own little nod to someone whose style I’ve admired for decades.
Maybe she’ll never walk into Designer Revival or maybe she will?? Either way, I’ll still smile every time I walk past those brownstones.
Because in New York, it always feels like possibility lives just around the corner.
Who inspires you—not because you’ve met them, but because of what they represent? I’d love to hear in the comments.
