This is what happens when money gets you. It gets into your brain and it swells up like a pot of popcorn in the heat of your imagination. You think you have this much now and you try to do the math about what kind of security you could be offered, who you could protect. In another way, if you didn’t get to be part of the Transaction at all, if things were just taken care of, it wouldn’t be the same. The stress and the adrenaline of managing your money, or whatever, that’s the addiction. Just now you got the amount in Canadian to be a five figure number, but still not quite there in USD. You immediately go online to look at what that could buy you. This is capitalism as a reflex, your fingers just running ahead to suss out the numbers before your brain can register it. In six months you’ll have twice this, and it can be chucked away somewhere breeding on its own, filling an imaginary backyard pool, bubbling up over the poolside, and over the grass that gets groomed by people who are not you, and into the shrub rows where small birds get caught in the doubling paper trying to forage for nest building scraps but they get pushed out by the expanding egg of your wealth which even in metaphor enjoys what’s theirs, and their carcasses are strewn under the plume of false security that you will be in a market still when there are no birds and there is no planet.
