Most people would look at the suicide rate in the UK demolition and construction industry with a mixture of dismay and shock. How can one industry sector have a suicide rate that is almost four times the national average?
Those of us who have seen suicide up close will look beyond the numbers and see the tragedy: the desperate cries for help that went unheeded; the families destroyed and left behind; the seemingly uncaring industry that will move on even as the funeral arrangements are being made.
But there’s another group of people looking at the industry’s mental health pandemic. They see neither shock nor tragedy. They see untapped potential.
